Start/finish:
National Park Car Park in Buckden

From the car-park in Buckden, follow the road signposted to Hubberholme and cross the bridge to join the river footpath [SD 93945 77324]. This is a pleasant, easy stroll by the river, rejoining the road just before reaching Hubberholme at [SD 93235 77959].

Approaching Hubberholme (The George Inn)

When you reach Hubberholme (The George Inn is highly recommended should you be needing light refreshment at this point), cross the river via the bridge and take the footpath around the back of the church. The route now follows The Dales Way Long-Distance footpath, alongside the river again, as far as the little group of farm buildings at Yockenthwaite [SD 90595 78992].

Looking back down on Yockenthwaite

From Yockenthwaite, the route follows the footpath up the hill, behind the farm buildings, above Strans and Raise Woods towards Scar House. At this point [SD 92095 78947] a shortcut back down to Hubberholme is available should you need it.

From Scar House, the route maintains its height, skirting the hill and crossing a small footbridge at Crook Gill [SD 93430 79177] before dropping down to the road at Cray (The White Lion - also highly recommended) [SD 94213 79204].

The White Lion at Cray

After crossing the road, the route follows the footpath up the opposite side of the valley, onto a well-established footpath known as Buckden Rake, which brings you, finally back to your starting position, at the car park in Buckden.
